Being an easy flight from Bangkok, and with direct flights from many countries, Phuket has become a popular destination for many to take their Christmas and New Year breaks. Once you land in Phuket, you’ll notice that Patong is really the heart of the action; day or night, there’s always a buzz in the area. You’ll discover that the area is home to a multitude of activities and ways to destress and celebrate the New Year. We’ll share with you some of the best things to do during your New Year break, including a much-needed Patong spa visit.
Make friends and family jealous with amazing photos of your New Year spent on the wonderful beaches of Patong. Visit Patong Beach for a lively atmosphere and watersports including jet skiing and parasailing. Or chill out on nearby Freedom Beach where you’ll have to pay a 100 THB entry fee, which is well worth it for a day of chilling in paradise surrounded by crystal clear waters. The entryway can be a little difficult to navigate so we recommend hiring a longtail boat from Patong Beach to drop you off.
Patong Temple, or Suwan Khiri Wong Temple as it’s formally known, is a beautiful, traditional Thai temple that’s nearby for you to explore. Just remember to cover your shoulders and knees and remove your shoes when you enter the temple to show your respect. Entry is free but donations are always welcome.
Visit Jungceylon, one of Phuket’s best malls for a plethora of fashion, beauty, and electronic stores. When hunger strikes visit the Food Bazaar for your fill or Thai or international classics. Outside you’ll find the perfect photo opportunity when the Jungceylon musical fountain show begins with lights, music and projections on the water. Catch it every day at 7pm and 9pm.
For an authentic Thai experience visit Patong Boxing Stadium to watch the fighters do their thing and soak up the electric atmosphere. You can choose your seating tier but almost all areas have a good view. Food sellers will come round offering you mid-fight snacks to keep your hunger at bay.
Famous Bangla Road awaits for those in search of a fun night out. Expect to witness everything you’ve heard about Thailand, and more! From lively bars and clubs, to street food and sellers, you’ll be captivated by the sheer amount of activity taking place on this one street. This is the nightlife hub for anyone seeking a night on the town in Patong.
